Bihar CM Nitish Kumar gifts Rs 1107 crore to Madhubani, lays foundation for 139 schemes
Madhubani: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his Pragati Yatra, announced development projects worth over Rs 1107 crore for Madhubani district. The Chief Minister inaugurated, launched, and laid the foundation stone for 139 schemes remotely.
Tribute to Shaheed Ramfal Mandal
CM Nitish began his visit at Durgipatti village in Khutauna block, where he paid floral tributes to Amar Shaheed Ramfal Mandal. He inspected the Saksham Anganwadi Center and interacted with children and teachers, emphasizing quality education to build a brighter future.
Interaction with Jeevika Didis
The Chief Minister visited stalls set up by Jeevika Didis and various departments. He distributed forms to 926 landless families and appointment letters to newly appointed Amins under the Abhiyan Basera-2 scheme. Symbolic cheques for schemes like Mukhyamantri Nari Shakti Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana were also distributed.
CM Nitish praised the contributions of Jeevika Didis in empowering women, mentioning how the initiative started in 2006 with a loan from the World Bank. “We named the women Jeevika Didis to honor their efforts,” he said, adding that their involvement in various businesses has improved their financial independence.
Inauguration of Developmental Projects
In the premises of Government Middle School, Durgipatti, Nitish inaugurated multiple projects, including rainwater harvesting systems, pond beautification, MNREGA park construction, waste processing units, and solar plate installations.
Beautification of Amrit Sarovar
While inspecting the beautified Amrit Sarovar under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan, Nitish suggested constructing a stepped ghat around the lake. He emphasized the importance of renovating and beautifying public water bodies to improve their utility and aesthetics.
Revival of Kamla River
The Chief Minister inspected the proposed scheme to revive the old Kamla Dhar and Jeevchh rivers to improve irrigation and reduce floods. Officials explained how the scheme would benefit 92 villages in Madhubani and Darbhanga districts by making 10,000 hectares of land fertile and boosting aquatic product production. The project is estimated to cost Rs 358.20 crore.
Inauguration of Sugarwe Riverfront
CM Nitish inaugurated the Sugarwe Riverfront near Araria Sangram village in Jhanjharpur block. The riverbank development and protective works worth Rs 1396.11 lakh were unveiled. He expressed satisfaction with the project’s quality, noting that it would provide a scenic recreational area and convenience for Chhath Puja celebrations.
Expansion of Kosi Canal
The Chief Minister inspected the site for the expansion of the canal at Bideshwar Sthan near NH-57. The project, estimated at Rs 569.18 crore, aims to expand canals to benefit 80 villages and irrigate 26,879 hectares of land. Nitish emphasized the need for quality construction and its potential to boost agricultural productivity.
Focus on Women Empowerment
CM Nitish reiterated his commitment to women empowerment through Jeevika and related schemes. He emphasized the significant role of self-help groups in improving women’s livelihoods and financial stability.

The visit saw the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Madhubani MP Rampreet Mandal, MLA Rampreet Paswan, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, and other senior officials and dignitaries. Nitish’s announcements have raised hopes for accelerated development in Madhubani.
