Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Patna Junction Metro Tunnel Breakthrough, Pushes for Faster Completion

Patna : CM Nitish Kumar today reviewed the progress of the Patna Metro Rail Project and inaugurated the third tunnel boring machine (TBM) breakthrough near Patna station. Pressing a button, he signaled the TBM’s emergence from the underground stretch, marking a significant milestone for the city’s metro development.

During the visit, Urban Development and Housing Department Secretary Abhay Kumar Singh provided a detailed briefing on the project’s progress, including the alignment of Corridor 1 and Corridor 2. Officials outlined that the 6.01 km metro stretch—from Malahi Pakri to Khemnichak, Bhutnath Road, Zero Mile, and Pataliputra Bus Terminal—is being prioritized, with a targeted launch date of August 15, 2025.

The TBM, which commenced tunneling from Gandhi Maidan station on November 21, 2023, has now reached Patna station via the Akashvani underground stop. Reviewing the site map and the construction timeline, CM Nitish instructed officials to accelerate work, ensuring the metro project stays on schedule.

“This metro project has been meticulously planned, and we are closely monitoring its execution,” the Chief Minister said. “Our priority is to ensure there are no delays so that the people of Patna can benefit from an efficient transport system.”

As part of the visit, Nitish Kumar also inspected Patna railway junction, where he reviewed the broader urban transit integration strategy.

Senior officials present included Urban Development and Housing Minister Jivesh Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, and Patna District Collector Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, along with representatives from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Patna Metro Rail Project.
