Bihar: Demand to Launch Flights at Saharsa Airport, Letter Sent to Aviation Ministry
Patna: Efforts to include Saharsa Airport in the Udan scheme have begun, raising hopes for improved air travel access for the public soon. Currently, the airport is used only for administrative purposes when officials or leaders visit the region. For now, residents rely on Darbhanga Airport for air travel, which is connected to Saharsa by road.
The runway at Saharsa Airport is 3,000 feet long and holds strategic importance due to its proximity to the borders of Nepal and China. Being part of the Kosi division and near Nepal, it is seen as significant from both civilian and strategic perspectives.
On September 18, the Saharsa district administration, through Additional Chief Secretary Dr. S. Siddharth, sent a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, requesting the airport’s inclusion in the Udan scheme. The letter also sought guidance on runway extension and land requirements to accommodate small aircraft under 2B Code 7.
This development aims to benefit the local population by offering them air travel services without having to rely on distant airports.
