Bihar: Education Dept’s Top Official KK Pathak Abruptly Resigns Amid Controversy
PATNA – In a sudden development, KK Pathak, the Additional Chief Secretary of Bihar’s Education Department, has tendered his resignation, sending shockwaves through the state’s administrative and political circles. Pathak’s resignation letter, which has surfaced, simply states his decision to “resign the charge of the post of Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department, Bihar.”
Pathak’s tenure has been marred by controversy in recent months. He faced criticism from teachers’ unions, who expressed concerns about his approach and leadership. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also leveled accusations against him, alleging a dictatorial attitude.Â
Notably, RJD and JDU MLCs even approached the Governor seeking Pathak’s removal.
This backdrop of unease makes the timing of his resignation particularly intriguing. No official reason has been cited for his decision, further fueling speculation.
A Career with Ups and Downs:
A 1990 batch IAS officer, Pathak hails from Uttar Pradesh. After initial postings in various districts, including Katihar, he became District Magistrate for the first time in 1996. He gained recognition for his role in implementing the state’s excise policy in 2015. However, in June 2023, he was transferred from the Prohibition Department to the Education Department, a move that was seen by some as a demotion.
