Patna: Relief from the relentless heatwave was felt across Bihar on Tuesday, with no districts recording official heatwave conditions, although temperatures remained punishingly high at several locations. The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in the northern and eastern parts of the state over the next four to five days.

Gaya remained the hottest place in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 41.7°C, closely followed by Dehri at 42°C and Buxar at 41.2°C. Elsewhere, high temperatures continued to dominate, with Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur both seeing highs around 39°C, while Patna itself hovered just below the 40°C mark.

Despite the slight reprieve from heatwave declarations, the meteorological centre said no significant drop in maximum temperatures is expected over the next three to four days, signalling continued discomfort for residents.

Additionally, from May 14, a combination of hot and humid conditions is forecast to persist in parts of south-west Bihar, including Patna, Gaya, and Nalanda, as well as areas in the north-west and north-central regions such as Saran, Siwan, and Muzaffarpur. On May 15, the warning area expands to include Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Sheikhpura, and Vaishali.

Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children, and to take basic precautions including staying hydrated and avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours.
