Bihar: Furniture Businessman Extorted for One Crore Rupees in Vaishali; Six Arrested

Hajipur, 22nd July 2024: Police have disclosed the extortion of one crore rupees from a furniture businessman in Lalganj, Vaishali. Vaishali Superintendent of Police (SP) Har Kishore Rai informed that two criminals, Prince and Roshan, who orchestrated the extortion, are currently lodged in Beur Jail in Patna and a jail in West Bengal, respectively. They conspired to demand the extortion together.

The SP also revealed that criminals from Delhi were involved in the extortion plot, receiving support from local criminals in Lalganj. The police have arrested six individuals, including two from Delhi and four from Lalganj. Mobile phones have been recovered from the arrested individuals. The police are still searching for four more suspects involved in the case.

Dharmendra Sharma, the victimized furniture businessman, reported that he received a phone call on July 14 demanding one crore rupees. The caller threatened, “I am speaking from Beur Jail. If one crore rupees is not given by the 18th, we will kill you.” On the night of July 21, around 8 p.m., two criminals arrived on a bike and opened fire at Sharma’s house.

According to Vaishali police, out of the six arrested individuals, four are from Lalganj and two from Delhi. The Delhi miscreants already have robbery cases registered against them. The arrested individuals are:

– Pankaj Kumar alias Tiger Rai, Agarpur, Lalganj
– Ramshankar Rai, Agarpur, Lalganj
– Kunal Kumar, Sathiota, Bhagwanpur
– Anil Kumar Rai, Sathiota, Bhagwanpur
– Honey alias Bhola, Baljit Nagar, Patel Nagar, Delhi
– Pramod Maurya, Baljit Nagar, Patel Nagar, Delhi

In response to the incident, the businessmen of Lalganj kept their establishments closed on Monday, staging a march to protest against the police. The incident has created an atmosphere of panic among the local businessmen.

Following the threats received on July 14, the Lalganj police had provided a bodyguard for Dharmendra Sharma. The police were investigating the case when two masked criminals entered Sharma’s house late last night and opened fire. Sharma and his bodyguard were present during the incident. The masked criminals fired two rounds to spread terror, one shell of which was recovered by the police from the spot.
