Madhubani/Patna: The Bihar government has suspended Abhiram Kumar, a senior deputy collector posted in Samastipur, for dereliction of duty during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting in Jhanjharpur, Madhubani district, held on April 24.

Kumar, who was assigned law and order responsibilities during the Prime Minister’s visit, was found to be absent without prior notice. His suspension follows an inquiry by the Samastipur District Magistrate, who informed the state government of his absence on May 3. Despite being given an opportunity to explain his conduct on May 13, the General Administration Department found his response unsatisfactory and proceeded with disciplinary action.

The Prime Minister’s visits typically prompt a high-level deployment of administrative officers to ensure smooth execution and security arrangements. Over a dozen officers from the Bihar Administrative Service were deputed in Madhubani between April 22 and 24 for the event, which drew a large crowd. Kumar’s absence was viewed as a serious lapse.

Under Rule 3(1) of the Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1976, and Rule 9(1)(a) of the Bihar Government Servants Classification, Control and Appeal Rules, 2005, Kumar has been suspended. During the suspension, his headquarters has been designated as the office of the Commissioner in Darbhanga. He will continue to receive a subsistence allowance as per Rule 10(1) of the 2005 Rules.
