Bihar Governor Addresses Education Sector Concerns, Urges Swift Action on Vacancies
Patna: Bearing witness to the pressing issues within Bihar’s education sector, Rajendra Vishwanath Aralkar, the Governor-cum- Chancellor of state universities, convened a meeting with Vice Chancellors of Bihar’s universities and officials from the Education Department. The gathering, held at Raj Bhavan, aimed to address critical matters including teacher vacancies, salary disbursements, and operational challenges faced by educational institutions.
During the meeting, discussions centered on the urgency of filling teacher vacancies and ensuring timely appointments, along with the prompt payment of terminal benefits to retiring non-teaching staff. Governor Aralkar underscored the importance of addressing these issues promptly to maintain the smooth functioning of universities.
Vice Chancellors highlighted the significant obstacles posed by teacher shortages, particularly in light of the new subjects introduced under the 2020 education policy. Financial constraints further exacerbated the situation, leading to delays in salary payments and operational difficulties. Concerns were raised regarding the registration of FIRs against university officials and the suspension of bank account operations, significantly impeding administrative functions.
In response, Governor Aralkar assured immediate action to address the challenges faced by universities, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and resolving issues related to the University Information Management System (UISA). He directed all Vice Chancellors to ensure timely payment of retirement benefits to non-teaching staff and encouraged the enrollment of students in colleges closer to their residences for convenience.
The meeting, presided over by the Governor, witnessed the participation of Principal Secretary to the Governor, Robert L. Chongthu, Secretary of the Education Department, Vaidyanath Yadav, along with Presidents and officials from various universities across Bihar.
