Patna: Patna is set to get a major transport facelift, with the city administration moving into the final phase of preparations for the launch of a multi-modal transport hub near Patna Junction — a project expected to ease congestion and transform commuter experience in one of the busiest areas of the city.
At a high-level meeting on Thursday, District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh reviewed traffic management plans and infrastructure readiness with senior officials and transport stakeholders, including representatives from auto-rickshaw and bus unions. The meeting, held at the Collectorate, focused on the final touches to construction work and the implementation of new traffic strategies around the station area.
Dr Singh confirmed that construction of the hub and its connecting pedestrian escalator to Patna Junction is nearly complete, and directed engineers to wrap up remaining tasks within the next two to three days. The Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation, responsible for reducing the roundabout in front of Patna Junction, was also given a three-day deadline.
To improve vehicle flow, a road divider between pillars 13 and 14 will be removed to allow easier U-turns for traffic approaching from Goriya Toli.
In a bid to decongest the station premises and prioritise pedestrian safety, officials plan to designate the vicinity as a “No Auto Zone”. Additional CCTV cameras will be installed by Smart City Patna, covering the stretch from Patna Junction to the GPO. A new control room will monitor illegal parking and vendor encroachment, with enforcement action to follow.
Authorities also issued instructions to remove encroachments along the Patna Junction–GPO–R Block corridor and expedite road repairs in the area to ensure readiness ahead of the hub’s opening.
