Bihar Launches 'Mission Total Segregation': Separate Collection of Wet and Dry Waste from Every Household

Patna: Bihar has launched ‘Mission Total Segregation’, a state-wide initiative aimed at enhancing waste management practices. The program was inaugurated by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who urged citizens to turn their commitments into action. “Today is a day to make resolutions, not just to speak but to work,” he said during the launch event. The program was attended by Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitin Naveen, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Deputy CM Vijay Sinha, and Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav.

Speaking at the event, Minister Nitin Naveen highlighted the scale of the operation, noting that 375 teams have been formed in Patna, each including women members. “Team members will collect dry and wet waste separately from every household,” Naveen stated. He also announced plans to establish a waste processing unit in the capital soon. The campaign has extended its reach to children in 500 schools, where cleanliness songs will be sung. Naveen emphasized that the Education Department will soon implement this initiative in all schools across the state.

Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary stressed the importance of transforming the Municipal Corporation into a profitable entity and expressed readiness to allocate funds for the mission. “If it takes even Rs. 5,000 crore to make waste management successful, the Finance Department is ready to provide it,” he said. Chaudhary also called for the timely completion of the Patna Metro project, urging that it be operational by 15 August 2025, without further delays.

Deputy CM Vijay Sinha praised the nationwide cleanliness drive initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasized the need to make the campaign successful across Bihar, including Patna. “A significant beginning has been made today. We must ensure that the cleanliness program is a success throughout the state,” Sinha remarked.
