Patna: The Bihar State Council of Ministers has granted administrative approval to assign Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, Patna, the responsibility of maintaining public toilets at major tourist sites across the state. This initiative aims to ensure clean, high-quality facilities for both domestic and international visitors.

Tourism Minister Nitish Mishra highlighted Bihar’s global reputation for religious tourism, historical sites, and its significance as the birthplace of Buddhism. He noted that the state is home to numerous cultural, natural, and religious attractions, drawing large numbers of visitors. In 2023 alone, Bihar welcomed approximately 8.21 crore tourists from across India and abroad, underscoring the importance of maintaining high standards in public amenities.

The partnership with Sulabh International is expected to improve tourists’ experiences by ensuring well-maintained public toilets that meet quality standards. This initiative aims to make Bihar’s tourist spots more comfortable and appealing for visitors, contributing to the growth of the state’s tourism sector.

In the first phase of the project, 28 tourist locations and tourist information centres will be equipped with upgraded public facilities, with Sulabh International responsible for their upkeep. The initiative is also expected to create employment opportunities, supporting both clean tourism and the local economy.

This move represents a significant step in enhancing infrastructure at Bihar’s tourist sites, positioning the state as a leader in clean and accessible tourism facilities.
