Bihar Police Resort to Lathi-Charge to Disperse Students at Veer Kunwar Singh University in Ara
ARA – Veer Kunwar Singh University witnessed a tumultuous scene as students, along with workers from RJD and ABVP, engaged in intense protests ahead of the scheduled Senate meeting. The situation escalated to the point where the police resorted to a heavy lathicharge to quell the uproar.
The Governor of Bihar, set to attend the Senate meeting, found himself amidst the chaos as the police chased protesting students, resorting to physical force. Reports indicate that some students sustained injuries, with a few even falling into a drain during the tumult.
Prior to the Senate meeting, ABVP workers sought a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor to address their grievances, which included demands for student union elections and various other issues. However, the university gate was closed to prevent the students from entering.
The students, undeterred by the closed gate, vehemently protested at the university entrance. In a display of frustration, some students broke through the university gate, attempting to gain entry. The situation took a turn for the worse as the police intervened, using batons to disperse the protesting crowd.
Contrary to the official statement by SP Pramod Kumar, who claimed that the gate was broken by the students during continuous protests, video evidence contradicts the narrative. In the footage, students can be seen being struck with batons by male police personnel, while a female police officer stands nearby.
The conflicting accounts raise concerns about the handling of the situation and the use of force against the protesting students. The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for a thorough investigation into the events leading up to the Senate meeting at Veer Kunwar Singh University.
