Bihar Police To Seize Criminals’ Illegal Assets In Crackdown On Organised Crime

Patna: Bihar Police have launched a major crackdown on organised crime, not only arresting offenders but also moving to confiscate illegally acquired assets. Authorities have instructed all districts to identify criminals who have amassed wealth through unlawful activities, signaling a tougher stance on crime and corruption.

ADG (Headquarters) Kundan Krishnan, addressing a press conference at the Police Headquarters, stated that under the provisions of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), law enforcement can now seize properties of professional criminals. A database of 3,000 Naxalites and 4,000 criminals has already been compiled, and action will be taken accordingly.

Crime Syndicates Operating From Jails

Investigations into high-profile robbery cases, including those at Jiva Jewellery in Danapur and the Tanishq showroom in Ara, have uncovered a disturbing pattern: criminal masterminds are orchestrating crimes from inside prisons. Two notorious gangsters, Prince alias Chandan and Sheru, currently lodged in Purulia jail, West Bengal, have been identified as the key conspirators. Bihar Police will soon take them into custody for questioning, following the discovery of suspicious electronic devices in their jail cells.
Law enforcement officials are also probing similar cases where inmates, particularly in Bihar, are directing robberies and extortion rackets from behind bars.

Young Recruits Lured Into Crime

A growing trend has emerged where young men from Vaishali and Ara are being recruited by crime syndicates and veteran criminals. Many, even while serving prison sentences, form gangs and execute robberies with outside operatives. Bihar Police have urged parents to remain vigilant and monitor their children’s activities to prevent them from falling into criminal networks.

Major Arrests And Recoveries

In connection with the Ara Tanishq robbery, 15 suspects have been arrested, with three still absconding. Police have recovered 2.5 kg of stolen gold, weapons, cartridges, and other incriminating evidence. The mastermind, Chunmun Jha, was killed in a police encounter, while several suspects were tracked and apprehended across six states, including Ballia, Gurgaon, and Maharashtra.

High-Security Jail Proposal

In a bid to curb criminal operations being run from inside jails, Bihar is planning to set up a high-security prison in a remote location, free from mobile networks and external access. The proposal will soon be submitted to the Home Department, aiming to ensure strict surveillance of inmates and visitors and disrupt organised crime networks.
