‘सूत्र ही मूत्र है’: Tejashwi Targets EC Over Foreign Voters in Bihar List

Patna: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav courted controversy on Sunday with an inflammatory comment aimed at the Election Commission during a press conference of the Mahagathbandhan in Patna. Responding to media reports citing EC sources that foreign nationals — including citizens of Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh — had been found on Bihar’s voter rolls, Tejashwi dismissed the reports and ridiculed the Commission, calling the unnamed sources “Mutra (urine).”
“The Election Commission isn’t issuing statements itself. Instead, it’s planting stories through so-called sources,” Tejashwi said. “Did the Election Commission release any official document or press note? These are the same ‘sources’ who claimed to have captured Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi during ‘Operation Sindoor’. We consider such sources to be urine — a waste product that stinks,” he added.
His remark drew sharp reactions, with critics accusing him of using inappropriate language against a constitutional body.
Tejashwi had earlier criticised the Commission’s ongoing voter list revision exercise, alleging that it could lead to mass disenfranchisement. “If even 1% of voters’ names are deleted, that amounts to 7.9 lakh voters in Bihar. There are 7.9 crore voters here. If ten names are removed per booth, that’s 3,200 votes per Assembly constituency. Such a move could impact electoral outcomes,” he claimed.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has reiterated that the final voter list will exclude the names of all ineligible individuals, including foreign nationals, regardless of whether they possess Aadhaar, ration cards or even voter ID cards.
