Raxaul (East Champaran): A retired Air Force doctor Mohammad Shah Alam was found dead in his home in Laxmipur village on Sunday. His body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan.

Dr. Alam, who had served as a doctor in the Indian Air Force in Delhi, retired in January 2024. After his retirement, he returned to his ancestral village of Laxmipur, where he opened a clinic with the intention of providing medical services to the local community.

According to his son, Shaad, there had been ongoing legal disputes between Dr. Alam and his wife, which had recently been resolved in Dr. Alam’s favor. Shaad reported that on Sunday morning, the family noticed an unusual silence from Dr. Alam’s room. When they broke the window to check, they found his body hanging from the fan.

A suicide note was discovered, in which Dr. Alam accused his wife and in-laws of harassment. The note stated, “I am committing suicide due to social prestige.”

The family rushed Dr. Alam to a private hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The police have sent the body to Motihari Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination, and an investigation is underway.
