Bihar Set to Sizzle: IMD Warns of Intense Heat Waves From April to June

Patna: Bihar is set to experience a hotter-than-usual summer, with temperatures soaring above normal from April to June, according to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain high across the state, with heat waves persisting longer than usual.

The IMD’s forecast, released on Monday, warns that north-western and south-western Bihar will bear the brunt of extreme heat in April, with heat waves lasting up to three to four days. Western Bihar is expected to be the most affected, while other parts of the state may experience heat wave conditions for one to two days.

The report, shared on IMD’s official X handle, indicates that heat wave conditions will be more frequent in south-central, south-western, north-western, and north-central Bihar throughout the summer months. Eastern Bihar will also experience hot winds, though heat wave durations may be shorter compared to other regions.

Adding to concerns, the IMD predicts that pre-monsoon rainfall in April will be below average, exacerbating the heat. Night temperatures are also expected to remain significantly higher than normal. Meanwhile, IMD Patna has forecast a rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures by 2-4°C from April 1 onward, though no official heat alert has been issued yet.

With prolonged heat waves on the horizon, residents are advised to take precautions as Bihar prepares for an intense summer.
