Bihar Sports University to Launch PG Diploma Courses in Athletics and Cricket From 2025

Nalanda/ Patna : Bihar Sports University in Rajgir held the inaugural meeting of its Academic and Activity Council on Tuesday, marking a significant step forward in shaping the academic vision of the newly established institution. The council, the university’s highest statutory body for academic affairs, convened under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Shishir Sinha (IAS, Retd.).

During the meeting, several key decisions were taken, including the launch of postgraduate diploma programmes in sports training for athletics and cricket from the academic year 2025–26. Each programme will admit 20 students and will be based on curricula designed by subject experts during a national conclave in March 2025. Eligibility for admission includes a graduation degree in any discipline along with certified participation in recognised sports events.

The council also adopted the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) “Regulations, 2025” on awarding undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. These allow institutions to admit students twice a year—in July–August and January–February—and introduce a flexible multiple entry and exit framework. Under this system, students will be awarded a certificate after earning 40 credits, a diploma after 80 credits, and a degree after 120 credits.

Additionally, the university will form a Training Cell headed by the Controller of Examinations. This cell will focus on providing high-quality training to physical education teachers and other nominated personnel across the state.

The council passed a resolution to request the state government to declare the university’s postgraduate diplomas equivalent to those offered by national institutions like NSNIS Patiala. This would enhance the credibility and recognition of the university’s programmes at the national level.

Vice-Chancellor Sinha highlighted that the establishment and vision of Bihar Sports University is inspired by the Chief Minister of Bihar, and the university is committed to fulfilling this vision. Registrar and Council Secretary Rajni Kant (IAS, Retd.) formally introduced the council members, while Controller of Examinations and Dean Nishikant Tiwari presented the university’s recent milestones, including UGC recognition, AIU membership, and the launch of the university’s official website.
