Patna: Over 1.3 lakh teachers in Bihar who have recently been transferred across districts now have the option to request a change in posting — but only after they report to their newly assigned schools, according to updated guidelines issued by the state’s education department.
The mass transfers, carried out based on existing vacancies rather than teacher preferences, have sparked concerns of widespread dissatisfaction among teaching staff. Acknowledging this, the department clarified on Friday that teachers unhappy with their new postings can submit fresh applications for transfer to the District Education Officer (DEO), but only after officially joining their allotted school.
The guidelines, however, stress that no such requests will be entertained at the directorate or state level. The resolution of grievances will be handled locally by the District Establishment Committee under the supervision of the respective DEOs.
Districts currently facing a shortfall of teachers — including Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Purnia, Jamui, East Champaran, Araria, Katihar, Khagaria, Supaul, Banka, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Lakhisarai and Madhubani — will be given priority while processing reapplication requests.
The school-level postings for the transferred teachers are expected to be finalised by 15 June.
Additionally, those whose previous applications for transfer were not approved can participate in the second phase of the transfer process. The department has allowed them to delete their earlier applications via the e-Shiksha Kosh app and submit fresh preferences. New teachers will also be eligible to apply in this phase.
