Bihar to Get First Dedicated 100-Bed Children’s Hospital in Patna

Patna: In a significant move for pediatric healthcare, Bihar will soon have its first dedicated 100-bed children’s hospital in Patna. The hospital will focus exclusively on treating serious diseases in children, marking a milestone in the state’s healthcare infrastructure. Health Minister Mangal Pandey announced this initiative during his budget speech on Thursday.

Alongside this, the state government has also approved the establishment of 22 maternal and child hospitals, including one in Patna. So far, such hospitals have already been built in 18 districts.

In another major development, Bihar has established its first sports injury unit at Rajvanshi Nagar LNJP Bone Hospital in Patna. This facility will provide specialized treatment for athletes injured during sporting events.

Further, the state government has sanctioned ₹248.07 crore for a new 200-bed hospital and the enrollment of 150 students in the new campus of Government Tibbi Medical College, Patna. Additionally, a 100-bed hospital dedicated to diabetic patients will be built at New Gardiner Road Hospital.

The redevelopment of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) is also progressing rapidly. In the first phase, 2,000 beds will be made available soon as construction nears completion. Meanwhile, at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), work is underway on a new 1,200-bed hospital building at a cost of ₹513.21 crore. The first phase, which includes a 500-bed facility, has already been inaugurated. Once the second phase is completed, IGIMS will have a total of 4,200 beds.
