Bihar to Receive Rs 2 Lakh Crore from Union Budget 2025

Patna: The Union Budget 2025 has brought significant relief to Bihar with the government announcing zero tax on income up to Rs 12 lakh, benefiting an estimated 4.9 lakh taxpayers in the state. Moreover, the state’s allocation from the central government is set to reach a historic high of Rs 2 lakh crore in the upcoming financial year.

Bihar’s share in central taxes is projected to increase to Rs 1.43 lakh crore in 2025-26, a substantial rise from Rs 1.25 lakh crore in the previous year, representing a 10% share of the total central taxes. The state will receive Rs 11,923 crore monthly from this allocation.

The budget also includes an interest-free loan of Rs 15,000 crore for Bihar, repayable over 50 years. Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary stated that Rs 4-5 thousand crore of this loan will be utilized for the power sector.

Furthermore, Bihar is set to receive 8 Vande Bharat trains and 2 Amrit Bharat trains, along with 400 electric buses. The budget also includes provisions for expanding medical facilities, with the establishment of new medical colleges in the state.

Key Development Initiatives:

  • Makhana Board: The establishment of Makhana Board will boost the production, processing, and marketing of this indigenous crop, which is primarily cultivated in 10 districts of Bihar.
  •  Greenfield Airports: Greenfield airports are planned for Rajgir, Bhagalpur, and Sonpur, adding to the state’s air connectivity.
  • IT Patna Expansion: The capacity of hostels and other infrastructure at IIT Patna will be expanded to accommodate 6,500 students.
  • National Institute of Food Technology: The establishment of this institute will foster food processing activities, create employment opportunities, and enhance the income of farmers.

The budget also includes plans to develop the Ramayana Circuit, with a focus on the Ram Janaki Temple in Valmiki Nagar.

The introduction of electric buses in Patna, including 150 new e-buses, will improve public transportation and reduce pollution. These buses will be equipped with GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, and special security features for women.
