Patna: The Bihar government is planning to train 2,000 girls to drive pink buses in the state. This step has been taken to make women self-reliant and to create more job opportunities for them. The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) needs many women drivers for these buses and will start their training soon.

BSRTC Administrator Atul Kumar Verma said that the training will be done in three phases. In each phase, 500 women drivers will get 30 days of training. Only those who already have a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) licence can apply. After training, the drivers will get certificates if they become skilled in driving buses. The applications for this programme will open soon.

The government has made it necessary for all training centres to have clean toilets, drinking water, and high boundary walls to ensure the safety and comfort of the girls. Special Duty Officer Aruna Kumari also took part in the meeting to plan this programme with motor vehicle training centres.

By the end of August, 80 pink buses will reach Bihar. The training will be held in districts like Purnia, Aurangabad, Lakhisarai, Munger, Banka, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, and Siwan. The government hopes that this step will make public transport safer for women and help girls become independent.
