Patna: The Bihar Police Headquarters has issued a strict new order banning women police personnel from wearing heavy jewellery while on duty. The decision, which was taken to maintain the dignity and discipline of the force, will affect the daily attire of thousands of women police officers and constables across the state.
The order states that many women police personnel were seen wearing jhumkas, nose rings, bangles, and other large ornaments while performing their duties. Senior officials felt this was inappropriate for the image of the police force. The directive was issued after a review meeting held on 23 June 2025, where the matter was discussed in detail. Following this, the Personnel and Welfare Division released an official memorandum on 27 June formalising the ban.
Under the new rules, women police personnel will not be allowed to wear such jewellery items while on duty. The police headquarters has directed all Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the districts to ensure strict implementation of the order. Officials have been told to make sure that the rule is followed without any exceptions to maintain uniformity and professionalism within the force.
Copies of the order have been sent to the Director General of Bihar Special Armed Police, all Additional Director Generals of Police, Zonal Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General, and Senior Superintendents of Police in every district. The Bihar Police hopes this decision will reinforce a sense of discipline and uphold the dignity of its uniformed force in the eyes of the public.
