Bihar Tourism Introduces Double-Decker Bus Service for Heritage and Scenic Tours

Patna: The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation is set to introduce double-decker buses in Patna in an effort to boost tourism. A trial run has already been conducted, and the initiative aims to offer visitors a unique experience of the city’s heritage and scenic beauty. The fare for a round trip has been set at ₹100.

The bus, which has a capacity of 40 passengers—20 on the lower deck and 20 on the open-air upper deck—will initially operate on the JP Ganga Path, covering a route from Digha Rotary to Kangan Ghat and back. The service will allow passengers to take in the sights along the Ganges, including historical landmarks and cultural attractions.

Scenic views and historical insights

Tourists aboard the double-decker bus will be treated to panoramic views of the Ganges while also receiving information about the city’s historical landmarks. The bus route will pass through key sites such as Bans Ghat Kali Temple, Golghar, Sabhyata Dwar, Gandhi Museum, Gandhi Maidan, and Darbhanga House Kali Temple. Informational commentary will be provided to enhance the experience.

The vehicle itself has been decorated to appeal to tourists, and chairs have been installed on the top deck to allow passengers an unobstructed view of the surroundings.

Patna leads Bihar’s tourism numbers

Patna has long been a major draw for domestic tourists, recording the highest number of visitors in Bihar last year. According to official data, 74.38 lakh tourists visited Patna, making it the most popular destination in the state. It was followed by Muzaffarpur (48.76 lakh visitors), Munger (24.63 lakh), Rajgir (24.52 lakh), and Bodh Gaya (21.72 lakh).

The introduction of the double-decker bus service is expected to further strengthen Patna’s appeal as a tourist destination, providing visitors with a new way to experience the city’s rich history and scenic beauty.
