Bihar: Tourism Season at Valmiki Tiger Reserve to Conclude on June 29 Due to Monsoon
Valmiki Nagar: The tourism season at Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) is set to conclude on June 29. This decision is taken in light of the monsoon season, which is crucial for the breeding period of tigers and other wildlife. Due to the deteriorating conditions of forest paths during the rainy season, the administration annually closes the reserve during this time.
During this period, certain facilities are suspended while some remain accessible. Tourists have been enjoying limited activities available during the monsoon sessions. As of June 29, jungle safaris, cycle safaris, and boat safaris will be halted, with the restriction expected to continue until September 30.
Dr. Neshamani, Director of VTR, issued the order citing concerns for tourist safety, in accordance with directives from department authorities. Considering the possibility of rising water levels in the Gandak River, boating activities will also remain suspended.
Jungle safaris remain a major attraction for tourists, organized through designated tourism zones in Valmiki Nagar, Manguraha, and Gobardhan. Additionally, Lalbhittiya Sunset Point, Kuleshwar Swing, Eco Park, Golghar, and boat safaris continue to entice visitors.
The number of tourists visiting VTR has steadily increased due to the growth in the tiger population and the development of various tourist amenities. In the year 2014-15, a total of 30,356 tourists visited, whereas by the year 2023-24, this number surged to 322,071. From April 1 to June 25, 2024, alone, 136,976 tourists have visited VTR.
