Bihar Transport Dept Introduce 5G Enabled E-Challaning System for Road Safety During Elections
Patna: In a bid to enhance road safety measures during the ensuring elections, the Transport Department and Bihar Police have announced their collaboration to monitor and penalize violators. The implementation of an e-challaning system, bolstered by 5G technology, aims to streamline the enforcement process and ensure stricter adherence to traffic regulations.
Under the initiative, fines will be imposed electronically on individuals found violating road safety rules, facilitated through 5G-enabled handheld devices. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been inked between the Transport Department and the State Bank of India (SBI) to enable this system.
At the signing ceremony, attended by key officials including Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chief General Manager of SBI’s Bailey Road Branch, Shiv Om Dixit, State Transport Commissioner Vishal Raj, Officer on Special Duty Archana Kumari, General Manager Shailendra Singh Tadagi, and Deputy General Manager Tarun Kumar Saxena, the collaborative effort was highlighted as a significant step towards enhancing road safety measures.
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal emphasized the importance of adopting e-driving mechanisms to curb traffic violations effectively. He asserted that stringent actions would be taken against violators, underscoring the importance of road safety, especially during the election period.
Agarwal further explained that as per the agreement, SBI will provide 5G-enabled handheld devices to both the Transport Department and traffic police for efficient enforcement. The fines collected through e-challaning will be directly deposited into SBI accounts. This partnership marks a transition from the previous arrangement with HDFC Bank for handheld devices.
To facilitate seamless payment processes, traffic violators will have multiple options to settle their fines through State Bank of India’s banking channels. Payment methods such as UPI, debit cards, credit cards, and QR codes will offer convenience and accessibility to individuals fined for road safety violations.
