Muzaffarpur: Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) is preparing to launch three herbal products – phenyl, tooth powder, and mouthwash – in the market. These products have been made by the university’s postgraduate Chemistry Department under the guidance of Dr Abhay N. Srivastava. The university has sent samples for microbial testing to Lucknow, and once the report arrives later this month, the products will be available to the public.
This will make BRABU the first university in Bihar to release its own products. According to Dr Srivastava, the products are completely herbal and contain no chemicals. Ingredients like neem, basil and sweet basil have been used, and only water was added to the mix. He also said the products are safe to use and will not have any side effects. There is a lot of excitement among students as this marks a new chapter for the university.
The idea began after Vice Chancellor Prof Dinesh Chandra Rai set up an incubation cell at the university. Later, a plan to make herbal phenyl was approved by then-Registrar Prof Aparajita Krishna. The Chemistry Department then started working on all three items. The university says the products will be sold at low prices, though their shelf life will be shorter since they are chemical-free.
University officials also said they are thinking about making more such herbal products. The aim is to promote innovation and encourage students to become entrepreneurs. This step could help students think beyond traditional jobs and create their own businesses based on natural, home-made products.
