Bihar: Video of Liquor Party in Sugarcane Field Sparks Controversy, Three Arrested
Bettiah: A video showing a liquor and kebab party in a sugarcane field near Bettiah has gone viral on social media, stirring controversy and raising questions about the Bihar government’s liquor ban.
In the video, three individuals are seen consuming alcohol and criticizing the state’s prohibition laws. The men, identified as Suresh Kushwaha from Baghi village, Ramtahal Mahato, and Lalan Dev from Harpurwa village, can be heard making derogatory remarks about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. They also expressed their frustration over the liquor ban and made controversial demands, including the allowance of alcohol consumption in sugarcane fields while advocating for strict penalties for drinking elsewhere.
The video, recorded on September 3, shows the trio sitting in the field with liquor and kebabs, mocking the prohibition and questioning its effectiveness. They also called for financial incentives for those consuming alcohol in sugarcane fields and threatened political repercussions if the ban is not lifted before the 2025 elections.
The police acted swiftly upon the video’s release. Trainee DSP and SHO Sunil Saxena confirmed the arrest of the three individuals, who are now being questioned. Saxena stated, “The video went viral starting Thursday morning, and our immediate action led to the arrest of Suresh Kushwaha, Ramtahal Mahato, and Lalan Dev. They made the video following a visit to the Kansa Dahan fair in Machhgawan of Jogapatti.”
The video has sparked a debate on the efficacy of the liquor ban in Bihar and highlights ongoing tensions regarding alcohol prohibition in the state. The arrested individuals face charges related to public nuisance and violation of liquor laws.
