Bihar Women’s Team Wins Historic Gold in Lawn Bowls at National Games

Patna: Bihar scripted history at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, with its women’s lawn bowls team securing the state’s first gold medal since its bifurcation in 2000. The trio of Khushboo Kumari, Nikhat Khatoon and Payal Preeti staged a remarkable comeback to defeat West Bengal 15-14 in the women’s triples final.

Trailing 1-11 at one stage, the Bihar team displayed resilience, leveling the score at 11-11 before clinching victory in the final moments.

“This win is not just about sport—it is a testament to the determination and ability of Bihar’s daughters,” said Ravindra Shankar, Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority. The moment was witnessed by senior Bihar Olympic Association officials Dr Sanjay Sinha, Dr Arun Ojha and Dr Pankaj Jyoti.

Bihar also made its presence felt in the men’s events. Chandan Kumar secured a silver medal in the men’s singles lawn bowls, finishing second to Jharkhand’s Sunil in the final.

The state’s athletes continued their medal-winning streak in modern pentathlon, with Prince 1, Prince 2 and Ankit bagging a bronze in the laser run men’s event in Haldwani.
