Bihar’s First Modern Crematorium in Bans Ghat to be Completed by May

Patna: Bihar’s first modern crematorium is under construction in Bans ghat, Patna, and is set to be completed by May. Built at a cost of Rs. 89.40 crore, the crematorium spans 4.5 acres, making it three times larger than the previous facility, which covered only 1.24 acres. Once completed, it will be inaugurated and opened for public use.
According to Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) , the construction company responsible for the project, the new crematorium will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. It will have four electric cremation units, six wood-based pyres, and eight traditional cremation sites. This will ensure that all necessary arrangements for performing last rites are available in one place.
The facility will feature two ponds for immersing ashes and bathing, with water supplied directly from the Ganga River through pipelines. Additionally, it will have two waiting rooms, two prayer halls, two worship halls, an administrative office, a canteen, a temple, and staff quarters. Other amenities include six block toilets, two changing rooms, a 40-square-meter sub-station, a mortuary, parking spaces, internal roads, and a public announcement system.
As part of the project, the old crematorium is also being renovated. The renovation includes a vending zone, a waiting room, one block toilet, a changing room, parking space, and a sitting shed spread across 4,260 square meters. Facilities for the immersion of ashes and Ganga water showers have also been incorporated into the traditional cremation site. The completion of this project will provide modern, well-organized, and environmentally friendly cremation services to the residents of Patna and surrounding areas.
