Patna: In a major announcement, Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin said that the central government has approved Rs 33,464 crore for the development of 875 km of National Highways in the state. This is the largest amount ever approved for Bihar’s roads in a single financial year. The approval includes 52 projects that aim to boost connectivity and infrastructure across the state.
The plan includes the construction of three major bridges — two on the Gandak river at Bagaha and Patjirwa, and one on the Kamla river. These bridges are expected to improve transport for local people and help during floods by making movement easier and faster.
Out of the 875 km, around 380 km of roads will be widened into four lanes. Important routes to be developed include Ram Janaki Marg from Mashrakh to Bhitthamod, roads from Bariyarpur to Jamui near the Jharkhand border, and from Arwal to Bihar Sharif. Other roads like Sitamarhi to Chirant and Samastipur to Darbhanga will be upgraded to two lanes with paved shoulders. The plan also includes the construction of 18 Road Over Bridges (ROBs).
Minister Nabin thanked Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for supporting Bihar’s proposals. He said this progress is possible because of the double engine government — where the same party is in power at both the state and central level — which is speeding up development in Bihar.
