Bihar’s Wildlife Week Concludes with Release of Conservation Books at Patna Zoo
Patna: On Tuesday, October 8, on the concluding day of “Wildlife Week” at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, Patna, Bihar’s Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Department, Dr. Prem Kumar, released the book ‘Humare Aas Paas Ke Pakshi’ by sparrow conservationist Sanjay Kumar and environmentalist Nishant Ranjan. Along with this, Patna Zoo Director Satyajit Kumar’s e-book Flora and Fauna, the Patna Zoo Activity Calendar for 2025, and the Standard Operating Procedure for the Annual Water Bird Census were also released.
On the occasion, Dr. Prem Kumar stated that the objective of Wildlife Week is to promote and conserve wildlife in every situation, and for this, awareness is necessary. He emphasized that any obstacles in wildlife conservation would be removed and that those who threaten wildlife would face strict action. He noted that both the government and the public have come forward to conserve all animals, including sparrows, but more public participation is necessary.
Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park Director Satyajit Kumar commended the role of zoo ambassadors in wildlife conservation efforts. He mentioned that Patna Zoo has taken on the responsibility of bringing sparrows back home and that an action plan is being finalized by sparrow conservationist Sanjay Kumar during Wildlife Week.
Sanjay Kumar, the sparrow conservationist and Deputy Director of PIB Patna, remarked that the book ‘Humare Aas Paas Ke Pakshi’ is a significant step toward wildlife conservation. He expressed optimism that it would connect children and the public with the conservation campaign. On this occasion, Abhay Kumar, Director of Ecology and Environment, Patna, highlighted that Wildlife Week has worked to spread an important message and that such events create awareness among people about wildlife. Former Director of ZSI Patna, Dr. Gopal Sharma, noted that awareness about wildlife has increased and that there is a fear of law; however, more urgency is needed in dolphin conservation.
The event was attended by Zoo Deputy Director Shashi Bhushan Prasad, Forests Area Officer Animal Project Anand Kumar, Forests Area Officer Botanical Project Mohd. Arif, Zoo Biologist, Zoo Ambassadors, and Zoo employees. During the ceremony, winners of various competitions and zoo employees were awarded and honored.
