Boat with 20 Passengers Capsizes in Kosi, Disaster Team Rescues All
Supaul: A boat carrying approximately 20 passengers capsized in the Kosi River near Pirganj Thadi Dhatta, within the Kishanpur police station area, on Friday morning. The boat, a small dinghy, was overloaded with passengers, leading it to lose control and capsize. Fortunately, the Aapda Mitra disaster response team, on flood duty in the area, arrived in time and rescued everyone on board.
Mohammad Samiullah, a member of the Aapda Mitra team, explained that the boat capsized due to the strong river currents. He, along with fellow team member Mohammad Adam and local residents, immediately initiated the rescue operation. All passengers were safely brought to shore without any serious injuries. The incident occurred as locals were using boats to commute, with roads cut off by floodwaters.
Local authorities were alerted, including the Circle Officer and the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Kishanpur. Neetu Singh, the trainee Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Kishanpur Police Station in-charge, confirmed that the boat was carrying more passengers than its capacity allowed. While all individuals were safely rescued, efforts are now underway to recover the capsized boat.
