Patna: The decomposed body of a young woman was discovered in a field near Dalismanchak village in the Barh police station area of Patna, around 200 metres from the Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama four-lane highway. Local residents spotted the body, which was partially clothed and covered with wild grass, and alerted the police.

Officers said the body appeared to be around seven days old. ASP Rakesh Kumar stated it was difficult to identify the woman due to the advanced state of decomposition. “The head of the deceased was found in a damaged state, though it is not clear whether the injuries were caused by animals or inflicted during the crime,” he said.

The body has been sent for postmortem to determine the cause of death and possible sexual assault. It will be preserved for three days to aid identification efforts. Police suspect the perpetrators deliberately dumped the body in the isolated area to avoid detection and have launched an investigation, contacting neighbouring districts and police stations to trace the victim’s identity.
