Chhapra/Patna: A Border Security Force (BSF) Sub Inspector from Bihar’s Saran district was martyred in unprovoked firing by Pakistan forces along the RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Mohammad Imtiaz, a resident of Narayanpur village under Garkha police station limits, died while leading his post at the border.

The 45-year-old officer was critically injured in the firing and was rushed to Seva Hospital along with other injured soldiers. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Imtiaz succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held on Sunday at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Jammu, where Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior BSF officials paid tribute to the fallen officer. “All ranks of BSF Jammu paid homage to Braveheart Sub Inspector Md Imtiyaz who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” the force said in a statement.

News of his martyrdom triggered a wave of mourning in his native village. Locals remembered him as a warm, well-respected figure who had returned home just a month ago to celebrate Eid with his family. “He was cheerful and deeply committed to his duty,” said a neighbour, holding back tears.

Imtiaz is survived by his wife, two daughters, and two sons. His elder son, Mohammad Imran, who works as a biometric engineer at PMCH in Patna, immediately left for Jammu upon receiving the tragic news.

The BSF will pay tribute to the fallen officer with full military honours on Sunday at the Frontier Headquarters in Jammu. His mortal remains will then be flown to Narayanpur, where his final rites will be conducted with full state and military honours.

State officials have expressed condolences to the bereaved family, praising Imtiaz’s courage and sacrifice.
