Patna: The Bihar Police have arrested two people in connection with the murder of Patna businessman Gopal Khemka. Director General of Police Vinay Kumar said on Tuesday that the shooter Umesh Yadav and the builder Ashok Sahu, who gave money for the murder, are now in custody.
Police said that Umesh Yadav shot Khemka after taking a contract of Rs 4 lakh from Ashok Sahu. Yadav was paid Rs 50,000 in advance and received the remaining Rs 3.65 lakh after the murder on July 5. During raids at Yadav’s house, police recovered the cash, 59 bullets, and many documents.
At Ashok Sahu’s house, police found Rs 6.5 lakh in cash along with dozens of land papers and other documents. Officials said that the murder was likely due to a dispute over a land plot. An audio recording of a heated argument between Khemka and Sahu about land was also found on Sahu’s phone.
ADG Kundan Krishnan said that the police are investigating all angles, including other people involved in illegal land deals. The investigation will continue to find everyone linked to the murder and the black business of land in Patna.
