Patna: NDA ally and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan has raised concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar, following the murder of Surabhi Raj, director of Asia Hospital in Patna. Chirag described the incident as alarming, stating that even a single such case puts the government on trial.

He also highlighted a worrying trend of targeted killings, particularly among Scheduled Caste communities, including the Paswan community, and noted a rise in urban crime. “This is undoubtedly a matter of concern for the government,” he said.

Chirag, whose party is part of the NDA but not in the Bihar government, asserted that had they been in power, they would have taken a stronger stance on law and order. “Whoever is responsible for such crimes—whether from our party, the alliance, or any anti-social group—must face the strictest punishment. No one will shield any criminal,” he said.

He suggested that such incidents could be politically motivated in an election year to tarnish the government’s image. Chirag urged the administration to identify and take strict action against those responsible. “We have also requested the Chief Minister to ensure effective control over these incidents so that such crimes do not recur,” he added.

On March 22, Surabhi Raj was shot dead in her chamber at Asia Hospital. The assailants fired 6-7 rounds, reportedly using a silencer-fitted pistol, delaying the discovery of the crime.
