Patna: The Minor Water Resources Department of Bihar has disbursed grants to 16,100 farmers under the Chief Minister’s Private Tubewell Scheme, a key initiative aimed at expanding irrigation coverage as part of the state’s Saat Nishchay-2 development programme.
The scheme, which seeks to provide irrigation water to every farm, plans to support the installation of 35,000 private tubewells, enabling irrigation on approximately 1,75,000 hectares of agricultural land. So far, 23,397 farmers have completed boring and uploaded their claims via the department’s online portal, resulting in the creation of irrigation capacity on 1,16,985 hectares.
A total grant amount of Rs91.91 crore has been disbursed to eligible farmers. The department confirmed that the remaining claims are currently undergoing expedited on-site inspections before payments are made.
Officials are also intensifying outreach efforts to encourage farmers who have not yet submitted their claims to do so promptly, in order to meet the scheme’s targets within the stipulated timeframe.
Farmers whose applications have already been approved are encouraged to upload their grant claims at mwrd.bihar.gov.in.
