Cold Wave Forces Closure of Gaya Schools Up to Class 8; Revised Timings for Higher Classes
Gaya: The Gaya district administration has ordered the closure of all government and private pre-schools, anganwadi centers, and schools up to Class 8 until January 16 due to the intensifying cold wave and plummeting temperatures. The directive, issued by District Magistrate Dr. Tyagrajan SM under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code 2023, aims to safeguard children’s health during the harsh weather.
Adjustments for Higher Classes and Coaching Institutes
For students in Class 9 and above, as well as coaching institutes, the district administration has revised timings. These institutions can operate only after 9:30 am and must conclude academic activities by 4 pm. However, special classes for board examination preparation are exempt from these restrictions.
Health Concerns Drive Decision
The administration highlighted the adverse effects of extreme cold during early mornings and evenings on children’s health. The new closure order takes effect on January 13 and will remain in place until January 16.
Previous Closures Extended
Earlier temporary school closures were implemented due to similar weather conditions. The latest order, issued on January 12 with the DM’s signature and official seal, extends the closure period as the cold wave continues to grip the region.
