Court Grants ED Seven-Day Custody of IAS Officer Sanjeev Hans in Corruption and Money Laundering Case

Patna: A special court has granted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seven days’ custody of IAS officer Sanjeev Hans, who has been in jail following his arrest in a corruption and money laundering case. The court directed the ED to take Hans into custody within two days.

The court will hear a separate application on Thursday regarding the remand of former RJD MLA Gulab Yadav, who is also implicated in the same case. The ED had earlier requested 14 days’ custody for both Hans and Yadav.

Sanjeev Hans and Gulab Yadav were first targeted in July when the ED raided their properties as part of an investigation under the Money Laundering Act. Subsequent raids were conducted on several of their associates. In a parallel investigation, Bihar’s Special Surveillance Unit also launched a probe into disproportionate assets after the ED’s recommendation.

Following four months of investigation, Hans, Yadav, and two others were arrested by the ED from Patna and Delhi on October 18. After a medical examination, they were sent to jail. The ED then applied for a 14-day remand, which was partially granted on Wednesday by special judge Rupesh Dev, who approved a seven-day custody period for Hans.

The Beur jail superintendent has been instructed to hand over Hans for the remand period. The court will decide on Gulab Yadav’s remand request on Thursday.
