Patna: An encounter took place between the police and criminals in Patna’s Ranitalab police station area on Monday. The incident happened in a garden near Kab village under Paliganj subdivision. Police had received secret information that some criminals were planning a big crime there. When the police team reached the spot, the criminals started firing at them. In response, police also opened fire, injuring one of them.
The injured criminal has been identified as Suraj Kumar, a resident of Pairpura village under Paliganj police station. He was shot in the leg and has been referred to Patna for treatment. Another criminal named Alok Kumar, who was present with him, was also arrested by the police from the spot. Both have been involved in criminal activities before.
Police officials said that last month, a paan shopkeeper named Sunny Kumar was robbed near Saidabad village, and Suraj Kumar was involved in that case. Fearing another crime, a special police team was formed under Patna West City SP Bhanu Pratap Singh to catch them. When the team reached the garden, the criminals started firing, forcing police to retaliate in self-defence. Suraj was injured while Alok tried to run but was caught.
Police recovered a country-made pistol and four live cartridges from them. Officers said both criminals are being interrogated to find out about their gang and other crimes. Patna Police have increased security in the area and warned that strict action will continue against anyone who disturbs peace and law in the district.
