Dalit Community First to Lead New Jan Suraj Political Party, Followed by Backwards and Muslims
Patna: A state-level meeting of the officials of Jan Suraj Abhiyan was held at Bapu Auditorium in Patna on Sunday, drawing around 15,000 participants from across Bihar. During the meeting, it was resolved that the Dalit community would have the first opportunity to lead the newly formed Jan Suraj party, with subsequent leadership rotating to members of the extremely backward and Muslim communities.
Prashant Kishore, the architect behind Jan Suraj Abhiyan, emphasized the inclusive approach of the movement. He proposed a representative structure dividing society into five main categories: general, OBC, extremely backward, Dalit, and Muslim. Each category would have proportional representation in the 25-member leadership committee, a principle that would extend to all party committees and the distribution of tickets.
Kishore outlined the criteria for joining the leadership committee: candidates must connect at least 5,000 people with Jan Suraj and meet a general educational qualification. Leadership roles within Jan Suraj would rotate annually among the five social categories, ensuring a diverse and inclusive leadership over five years.
The proposal to prioritize the Dalit community for the initial leadership role was passed unanimously, recognizing their economic, social, and educational disadvantages. The leadership would then rotate to members of the extremely backward and Muslim communities, followed by OBC and general category representatives.
A seven-member election committee was established to select the party’s leadership. The committee includes Dr. Bhupendra Yadav from Samastipur, R.N. Singh from Begusarai, Suresh Sharma from Gopalganj, Ganesh Ram from Siwan, Dr. Manjar Naseer from East Champaran, Arvind Singh from Bhojpur, and Swarnlata Sahni from Muzaffarpur. Additionally, 121 members were tasked with drafting the party’s constitution.
Prashant Kishore also shared his thoughts on Twitter, stating: “After more than two years of Padyatra through thousands of villages and small towns of Bihar, we formally started the process of party formation to give a better alternative that would end decades of misery and ensure a better future for the children of Bihar.”
He added: “Yesterday, the process began with the first of the eight office bearers’ conventions before the official launch of the party on October 2. Over the next two months, 1.5 lakh Jan Suraaj office bearers together with lacs of participating ‘Sansthapak Sadasyas’ of #JanSuraaj will deliberate, and decide on the key priorities of the party; draft and finalize a party constitution, and finally ELECT the leader(s) of the party.”
