Begusarai/Patna: The daughter of a local BJP leader was seriously injured in an acid attack while she was asleep at her home in Begusarai district, Bihar, late on Saturday night.
The 24-year-old victim, Pallavi Rathore, daughter of former BJP Mandal vice-president Sanjay Singh, sustained burns to her face and hand after acid was allegedly thrown through the window of her room in the Bakhri market area, under Bakhri police station.
She was admitted to a private hospital after alerting her family. “Around 2am, we heard Pallavi scream,” her father said. “She said her face was burning. When we splashed water, a sticky substance came off her clothes. It seemed to be acid.”

Begusarai Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar confirmed the incident and said that a police team, led by the Bakhri Deputy Superintendent of Police, is investigating. So far, the family has not reported any known disputes.
BJP district spokesperson Sidhesh Arya called the attack “unfortunate” and urged the administration to arrest those responsible. BJP district president Rajiv Verma, who visited the scene, said the matter has been taken up with senior officials.
Police said the attack caused burns on the right side of Rathore’s face and her left hand. Officers have not ruled out any motive and said efforts are underway to identify the attacker.
