Elderly couple found dead in their Patna home, police investigate suspected domestic dispute
Patna: An elderly couple was found dead in their home in Nehru Nagar, Patna, on Tuesday evening, with police investigating the possibility of a domestic dispute. The victims, identified as NK Srivastava (70) and his wife Sujata (70), were discovered in their house in the Pataliputra police station area, after police were alerted to the scene around 8:30 pm.
The couple had been living alone on the upper floor of house number 62, while tenants occupied the ground floor. Srivastava, originally from Pachalki in Siwan district, had retired from Biscomaun. According to reports, their three sons live abroad—one in the Netherlands, another in Dubai, and the third in Delhi.
Upon receiving the information, police arrived to find Sujata’s body in the kitchen and Srivastava’s body in a separate room. Initial investigations suggest that the couple had an argument earlier in the day, with the tenants downstairs reporting hearing a disturbance around midday.
Patna Central SP, Sweety Sehrawat, said there were no signs of forced entry or tampering with household items or valuables. “At this point, it does not appear that an outsider was involved,” she said. “We are exploring the possibility of a violent altercation between the two.”
Both victims sustained head injuries, with Sujata suffering more severe trauma. A stone tool typically used for grinding spices, found at the scene, is believed to have been the weapon used during the confrontation.
Forensic teams and a dog squad have been called in to assist with the investigation, while CCTV footage from the area is also being reviewed. The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
