Patna: An extortion attempt targeting Dr. Shambhu Sharan Singh, a retired government doctor from Khagaul, has prompted a police investigation after criminals demanded Rs 3 lakh from him. The threat was issued via a stolen mobile phone belonging to Dr. Singh’s compounder, Raju. The criminals warned that the doctor’s clinic would be shut down if the money was not paid.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when Raju’s mobile phone was stolen from inside the clinic located in the Moti Chowk area. Later that afternoon, at around 3:15 PM, an unknown individual used the stolen phone to contact Dr. Singh, delivering the extortion demand. The caller did not disclose their identity or provide any details on how or when the money should be delivered.
Dr. Singh, who retired from his position at a government hospital in Patna City in 2021, immediately lodged a complaint with the local police. Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar confirmed that the incident was captured on the clinic’s CCTV camera. Footage from the clinic shows a young man entering around 10 AM and stealing the compounder’s phone. The police are now working to identify the suspect and have launched efforts to apprehend him.
As the investigation continues, the police are focusing on the CCTV footage to establish the identity of the culprit. While no arrest has been made yet, authorities remain optimistic about making progress in the case soon. Dr. Singh, aged 64, is well-known in the area, and the community is on edge as police work to bring the perpetrator to justice.
