Flood Protection and Irrigation Expansion Reviewed in Bihar: Key Projects Discussed in Ministerial Meeting

Patna: A review meeting focused on flood protection and the expansion of irrigation facilities in Bihar was held by the Water Resources Department on Friday. Chaired by the Water Resources Minister, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, the meeting was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary Santosh Kumar Mall.

The discussion covered key projects aimed at enhancing the drinking water supply across the districts of Patna, Arwal, and Jehanabad, as well as ongoing restoration and lining work on the Patna Main Canal and Ara Main Canal. Plans to divert surplus water from the Ganga River into the Badua and Kharagpur reservoirs were also reviewed.

Another focal point was the progress of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Kosi-Mechi river linking scheme. This project is a crucial element of flood management and the extension of irrigation services in northern Bihar.

In total, 20 flood protection schemes were discussed, all focused on elevating, reinforcing, and concreting embankments along several of the state’s rivers. These projects are expected to bolster the state’s resilience against floods and improve water resource management.
