Gang-Rape and Murder of Minor Girl in Patna: Case Registered After Six Months of Struggle
Patna: A horrific incident of gang-rape and murder involving an 11-year-old girl in a village under the Punpun police station area has come to light, raising serious concerns about police’s response to such crimes. The incident occurred on April 18, 2024, but the case was registered only six months later, on October 8, 2024, after relentless efforts by the victim’s mother to seek justice.
For six months, the mother visited the Punpun police station, pleading for action, but her requests went unheard. In a desperate move, she escalated her complaint to high-profile authorities, including the President, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of Patna High Court, the Prime Minister, and the Union Home Minister. Following her outreach, the police finally registered the case.
The accused—Ravi Kumar, Gaurishankar, Om Das, and Ramlakhan Das—are all residents of the same village, with local Mukhiya Naga Ram allegedly pressuring law enforcement to suppress the case. The police have since commenced an investigation at the crime scene.
In an emotional statement, the victim’s mother recounted the harrowing details. “On the day of the incident, I had gone to sell vegetables. My daughter was home alone when the accused entered our house, gang-raped her, and then killed her,” she said. She further revealed that after the incident, she received false information from Ram Lagan Das, one of the accused, claiming her daughter had hanged herself. “When I rushed home, I found my daughter lying dead in the street, not hanging as I was told,” she added, visibly shaken.
