Gaya to Become Hub of Industrial Growth as Union Cabinet Approves New Smart City
Patna: The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the creation of 12 industrial smart cities across India, including a significant development in Gaya, Bihar. This initiative is part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NIDCP), which aims to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities and create a robust industrial ecosystem.
Gaya has been selected as one of the locations for these new industrial nodes, which are strategically planned along six major corridors across 10 states. The government has allocated an estimated ₹28,602 crore for the development of these projects, which was announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a press briefing.
“These industrial smart cities are a big step forward under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme. The government’s investment will be ₹28,602 crore, and these hubs have the potential to attract investments worth ₹1.5 lakh crore, creating 10 lakh direct and 30 lakh indirect jobs,” said Minister Vaishnaw.
The development of an industrial smart city in Gaya is expected to provide a major boost to Bihar’s economy by enhancing infrastructure, attracting investment, and creating employment opportunities. The project is part of a broader strategy to develop a “grand necklace” of industrial cities along India’s Golden Quadrilateral, a network of highways that connects the major industrial, agricultural, and cultural hubs of the country.
The new industrial nodes are designed to align with the government’s vision of “Viksit Bharat,” focusing on sustainable infrastructure, integrated development, and seamless connectivity. These smart cities are set to transform India’s industrial landscape, strengthening the country’s role in global value chains and positioning it as a major player in the global manufacturing sector.
