Government Schools in Bihar to Start at 6:30 AM from 7 April Due to Heatwave

Patna : Government schools in Bihar will shift to a morning schedule from April 7 to June 1 due to soaring temperatures, the state’s education department has announced. Schools will operate from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm, reducing students’ exposure to the intense midday heat.

The decision comes as a precautionary measure to safeguard students. Until now, government schools functioned from 10 AM to 4 PM, a schedule that left children vulnerable to the scorching afternoon sun.

Revised Timings and Schedule

Under the new schedule, classes will conclude at 11:40 am, followed by a short review period from 12:20 pm to 12:30 pm, during which headteachers will assess students’ progress, review homework, and plan the following day’s lessons.

The education department has instructed all government primary and secondary schools to adhere to the updated timings. District Education Officers (DEOs) and school principals have received guidelines to ensure a smooth transition and to implement necessary safety measures.

Advisory for Parents

Authorities have urged parents to take precautions to protect children from the heat, advising them to:

  • Send children to school on time
  • Provide water bottles to keep them hydrated
  • Dress them in light, breathable cotton clothes
  • Equip them with hats or umbrellas for added protection
  • Ensuring Academic Continuity

After students leave for the day, teachers will conduct an internal review of the day’s learning outcomes. They will assess whether students are keeping up with assignments and adjust lesson plans accordingly.
