Harsh Gujral Faces Backlash Over Bihar Remarks Ahead Of Patna Comedy Show

Patna: Indian stand-up comedian Harsh Gujral has come under fire for a controversial joke made in a recent comedy video that referenced Bihar, prompting social media outrage and calls to boycott his upcoming performance in Patna.

In a clip uploaded three days ago on YouTube, titled Jai Hind, Gujral commented on Operation Sindoor — an Indian Army response following the Pahalgam terror attack — with a skit mocking people from Bihar. “There is no more stupid community than Bihar in the entire country,” Gujral said in the segment, which has since been widely circulated online.

The remarks have provoked anger among viewers, especially in Bihar, where he is scheduled to perform on June 7, as part of his multi-city tour Jo Bolta Hai, Wahi Hota Hai. Users on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram have called for ticket cancellations and urged organisers to cancel the show entirely.

The comedian’s satire involved a fictional conversation with a Bihari youth during a blackout, filled with derogatory stereotypes and language. Facing backlash, Gujral has deleted the video from his channel.

This is not the first time Gujral has sparked controversy. Previously, he drew criticism for a comment suggesting Russian women could be hired for Rs 6,000, and for misbehaving with a female audience member during a show. Following similar backlash involving other comedians like Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina, Gujral had taken down content from his series The Escape Room, which featured explicit humour.

Gujral, who has also acted in Bollywood films including Mere Husband Ki Biwi, is yet to issue an apology or public statement addressing the current controversy.

His Patna show remains scheduled as of now.
