Patna: A major power outage left large parts of central Patna in darkness late Wednesday night following a technical fault in the 132 KV Karbighiya and Mithapur grids, disrupting supply to several densely populated areas and affecting over seven lakh residents.
The blackout, which began around 10:30 pm, impacted key neighbourhoods including Kankarbagh, Nala Road, Kadam Kuan, Gandhi Maidan, Dak Bungalow Square, Fraser Road, Exhibition Road, and adjoining localities. Bihar State Power Transmission Company Ltd (BSPTCL) teams were dispatched to the affected grids on instructions from the state power company headquarters, but electricity could not be restored through the night.
As the fault persisted, Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU) began issuing alerts to consumers via SMS, informing them of potential outages lasting from 12:10 am to 5:00 am on June 12.
In an attempt to mitigate the crisis, power was partially restored to critical areas like the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) through an alternative arrangement. “The PMCH grid is now being powered by the Digha grid,” said a PESU engineer. “From there, supply has been rerouted to Ashok Rajpath and nearby areas.”
